Walking & Thinking/Processing

This is a concept I’ve been pondering for awhile because of the relief, rest and solutions I’ve found from going for walk while processing an important decision or concept. It’s long been my opinion, even though I’m a bit (too much!) of a productivity person, that for many jobs, taking a walking break to sort through a problem is an essential aspect of that work. I’m now fascinated at finding tidbits about this concept here and there:

“When I hit a wall or a problem, a walk often brings sudden illumination.” – Ian Rankin, as quoted in Slow Productivity: the Lost Art of Accomplishment without Burnout by Cal Newport (pg. 81)

“Going for a walk was compulsory, every day for half an hour or an hour, not in order to relax but to ‘think through’ the lectures they had just heard.” – Benedict XVI: A Life, Volume I by Peter Seewald (pg. 145)

Welcome to Small Catholic

I’m fascinated by contrasts and have long enjoyed the concept of smallness, perhaps especially in the context of the wonder that comes from gazing up into the dome of St. Peter’s Basilica or enjoying the vastness of a starry sky.

I’m a Catholic, deacon-candidate-wife, mom/mom-in-law to 7; retired homeschool mom & parish DRE; ADHD, Celiac, HSP; I love learning and writing.
