Tabernacles

The tabernacle is to be situated in churches in a most worthy place with the greatest honor. The dignity, placing, and security of the Eucharistic tabernacle should foster adoration before the Lord really present in the Blessed Sacrament of the altar. – Catechism of the Catholic Church #1183, quoting Mysterium Fidei, Pope Paul VI

A tabernacle is a beautiful and lockable dwelling for Jesus in the Eucharist. When we genuflect in church, we are pointing our bodies towards the tabernacle and making ourselves “small” before the greatness of Jesus. (To genuflect means to bend the knee.)

Welcome to Small Catholic

I’m fascinated by contrasts and have long enjoyed the concept of smallness, perhaps especially in the context of the wonder that comes from gazing up into the dome of St. Peter’s Basilica or enjoying the vastness of a starry sky.

I’m a Catholic, deacon-candidate-wife, mom/mom-in-law to 7; retired homeschool mom & parish DRE; ADHD, Celiac, HSP; I love learning and writing.
