St. Dominic founded the Order of Preachers (abbreviation O.P.) who are popularly known as the Dominicans. In addition to being shown in the habit of the Dominicans, he is often pictured with a dog carrying a torch because of a dream his mother had about him. He effectively combatted the very destructive Albigensian Heresy by responding with truth and love rather than defensiveness and animosity. He is known for popularizing the Rosary.
