Saint Agnes of Rome

Virgin and Martyr, ~291-304
Feast Day: January 21st
Symbols: Lamb, Palm Branch
Buried: Chiesa di Sant’Agnese in Agone, Rome

The Church of St. Agnes in Agony (Chiesa di Sant’Agnese in Agone) is the gorgeous baroque centerpiece of the legendary Piazza Navona in Rome. There you can pray and reflect on the faith and bravery of this young woman in front of her remains on the site of her martyrdom in the year 304. We weren’t allowed to take photos inside the church, but you can find a gallery of photos on the Sant’Agnese in Agone Wikipedia Page.

Welcome to Small Catholic

I’m fascinated by contrasts and have long enjoyed the concept of smallness, perhaps especially in the context of the wonder that comes from gazing up into the dome of St. Peter’s Basilica or enjoying the vastness of a starry sky.

I’m a Catholic, deacon-candidate-wife, mom/mom-in-law to 7; retired homeschool mom & parish DRE; ADHD, Celiac, HSP; I love learning and writing.
