I’ve discovered over time that I’m passionate about collaboration for many reasons. Hope to write up more eventually, but here’s a quote to get us started…

As soon as that is known, people want to jump on that bandwagon and then instead of being challenged, instead of getting diversity of thought, you end up with group think. When I work with leaders and founders, I want to dismantle the HIPPO effect as quickly as possible. We actually ask the leader to speak last. So you come into the room, you may frame the decision or lay out the options, but you don’t disclose your opinion. And if I don’t know what you think, it’s really hard to conform and care. What I want to impress upon a lot of these hippos is that you need not just a support network of mentors and sponsors who have your back, but you also need a Challenge network which is a group of thoughtful critics who you trust to hold up a mirror so you can see your own blind spots more clearly.
